Social & Business Etiquette from Protocol Plus
In the business world

Men and women rising to the top of their profession, on the way to becoming a power in the boardroom, may feel uncomfortable in certain circumstances, or embarrassed by lack of social skills.

Even high flyers may feel out of their depth when they attend formal occasions or functions on behalf of an employer, or for their own business.

They may meet people from many different backgrounds and generations, some possibly with public school education, inherited wealth and property, all seemingly possessing the confidence conferred only by a lifetime of privilege. A knowledge of appropriate behaviour for formal occasions is helpful in overcoming apprehension.

The acquisition of good manners is as much a part of personal development as managing people, learning confidence without becoming arrogant, and being firm but fair. It is a skill which can pay dividends in securing a contract, meeting key executives, being invited to join a board and many other aspects of business and private life. The possessor of good manners may well have an advantage over someone with exactly the same technical expertise and professional qualifications, but who is not so competent on the larger stage of life.
